Poor quality ingredients, nasty pastry, served cold. Avoid.. It could be great, simple food done well. But this place hasn't cracked it. It's just plain bad..
Having eaten recently here I can only compliment the first class attitude of all the staff in the shop. Its not a traditional Pie and Mash shop it's just a clean and friendly place to eat with good food and amazing service. The pies are varied the gravy is perfect the liquor tasted fine. All in all its definitely worth a visit.
I have eaten Pie an Mash all my life so feel I can justify my review....the liquor was very bland and too thin, the top of the very small pie was nice but the bottom half was really undercooked, the mash was ok but the biggest thing to let it down was Malt Vinegar! The attempt at creating chilli vinegar might have been better if it hadn't been put in an oil bottle..very confusing! If you are going to market yourself as a traditional pie an mash shop then at least get the basics right...I'm afraid things would need to really improve to get me to go a second time In response to your reply to me saying that you are not trying to be a traditional East End Pie and Mash shop......I'm sorry if I assumed you were, maybe it was the fact that you have gone with a tiled interior of a traditional pie and mash shop and launched your shop with a couple of cockney Pearly Kings that confused me
Second time visiting this pie and mash shop this week, Im from Dagenham and was raised on this food, I can only say its the best Ive tasted for a long time, lots have tried and failed, liquor is good but is missing a slight something Pie and Mash spot on...... only one criticism is they need to be wheelchair accessible for my mate, but people who own said they are on the case with that..... all in all good authentic London food..... Took the trip down from North Norfolk today and I was very impressed. I must admit that when I saw the list of pies I was a tad concerned but when it arrived it was really nice although the pie was a tad dry. The mash was spot on although the portion could of been a bit more. The liquor was pretty much spot on, although could of been a tad thicker.People need to remember they have only been open a week and are tweeking things as they go - Rome wasn't built in a day!!They've pretty much sold out every day because of high demand with both eating in and takeaway options. So they must speak for itself, they needed to cook more and more as they were simply selling straight out again. Our family originate from the East End know a good pie and mash shop. Please give these guys time and their business can only go from strength to strength.
